We are all for loving every inch of your skin and feeling great about it. But, we also know that we can be our own worst critics, and see the imperfections that other people never notice. Things like fine lines and wrinkles, discoloration, acne scars…and it’s completely natural that we want to get rid of them. That’s where the laser skin treatment steps in.
Also, laser hair removal is one of the best inventions ever – so long, farewell to unwanted hairs.
If you’ve ever tried to google the term “laser skin treatment”, you were probably overwhelmed with the different types, names for this treatment, and why you should and shouldn’t use it.
We are here to help you finally distinguish what is what and learn what to expect from a laser skin treatment, so keep on reading.
Laser Skin Treatment or Laser Skin Resurfacing?
Actually, both. Laser skin resurfacing is just another name for laser skin treatment.
As the name says, it uses lasers to improve different types of skin irregularities. The laser works really precisely on the targeted area by removing the outer layer of the skin (known as the epidermis) and heating the layer underneath the skin, or dermis. That stimulates skin cells to promote collagen and elastin, which further results in smoother skin.
We have talked about the importance these two have on skin youthfulness in our blog Clash of the Titans: Sagging skin vs. Skin Tightening Titan, so check it out.
When someone reads that the laser removes the outer layer of the skin, the most common concern is “Will laser treatment damage my skin?” But, no, the outer layer of the skin is the living layer of the skin and this won’t hurt it in a way. However, you have to be careful when choosing your doctor, because insufficient knowledge can lead to skin damage.
And, yes, to answer your next question, laser treatment is beneficial for your face.
Depending on the skin area and the type of laser, the procedure can last anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours. Usually, the results are visible immediately after, with your skin getting better over the course of the next few weeks.
Types of laser skin treatments
There are many different types of laser skin treatments and each of them is amazing in its own way, depending on what you want to treat:
When we are talking about a non-invasive procedure with great results and minimal side effects, the Genesis laser is really high on that list.
It’s great for treating fine lines and wrinkles, scars, pores and uneven skin texture.
After just one treatment, you will be able to notice changes in your skin – it will look brighter and more youthful. Because of its efficiency, it’s known as the “lunch break procedure” – you are up and running after 30 minutes.
Intense Pulse Light IPL
This is a procedure in which intense pulses of light are used to penetrate deep into the skin.
Thanks to it, blood vessels and collagen below the skin constrict, which leads to reduced redness and fine lines.
This is one of the safest Light-Based facial treatments out there with little to no downtime. You can continue with your daily routine right after the treatment.
IPL is perfect for you if you have:
- Sun-damaged or discoloured skin
- Large pores and freckles
- Fine line and wrinkles
In just 50 minutes you will see the first results – the consultation lasts approximately 20 minutes and the treatment half an hour.
Another benefit of IPL – the side effects are minimal to practically none. You may experience some redness that will go away soon. And, of course, you should avoid sun exposure for at least a couple of days.
TruPulse Nd:YAG laser
This one is perfect for all kinds of dilated blood facial veins – spider veins, spider angiomas
Even the birds know that sclerotherapy is the best option for spider and varicose veins on your legs. If you want to freshen up your memory, here is a blog post dedicated to it Fighting Spider Veins – Who Are Our Allies
But, when it comes to facial veins, a laser is your go-to solution. During the treatment, light energy causes the blood within the vein to coagulate causing the vein to seal off, which leads to them disappearing.
People often choose TruPulse Nd:YAG laser over sclerotherapy, because there are no needles involved. The process is relatively painless, and you can continue with your daily activities in no time.
Just like with the other treatment, side effects are minimal and you can expect some redness, bruising, swelling… that usually goes away after a day or two. And, again, you should avoid sun exposure and use SPF (as you should always do).
Skin resurfacing PEARL
When you want to restore your skin’s natural glow, skin resurfacing PEARL treatment is a perfect choice.
It works wonders for:
- Wrinkles and fine lines
- Sun damage
- Aging in general
Unlike the other treatments, the downtime here lasts from five to seven days, but the procedure itself is done in approximately 50 minutes.
