Some call them “laugh lines,” others refer to them as “crow’s feet” — it’s all a matter of perspective. No matter how you perceive them, the lines at the outer edge of your eye are a natural part of the ageing process.
The face is the most expressive part of the entire body, and all the muscle contractions that happen with each facial expression crease the skin, especially the delicate area around the eyes. As we age, we lose elastin and collagen, the substances that help our skin spring back into shape after any movements, and the creases start to settle in.
However, you don’t have to settle for them. At my clinic, we are devoted to breaking the stereotypes about ageing through promoting skincare. I believe that everyone has the right to age with grace, freshen up their face, and smooth the lines around their eyes.
How Our Cosmetic Treatments Can Help
Crow’s feet will inevitably appear with age, but that doesn’t mean you have to accept them. Clients often reach out to me, hoping I can give their skin a youthful glow that matches their spirit. There are cosmetic treatments that can help you soften the wrinkles and depending on how deep they are, even smooth them out completely.
At Ottawa Vein and Cosmetic Medical Clinic, we offer three cosmetic treatments that can help you battle those pesky lines in a gentle, discrete way.
You don’t need botox or any dermal fillers to smooth out the fine lines at the edges of your eyes. Laser technology is one of the gentlest and least obtrusive ways to achieve that effect. Our Genesis Laser procedure is definitely not a cosmetic treatment to be afraid of, and many of our clients even describe it as therapeutic and relaxing.
The procedure is quite simple — a clinician takes the laser handpiece and moves it around half an inch away from your skin. You’ll feel nothing but gentle warming in the treated area. That’s laser stimulating collagen regrowth below the surface, restoring the skin’s vitality.
No special preparations are needed before the procedure. Since the treatment is painless, the clinician won’t have to treat the area with an anesthetic. However, it’s best to come with a clean face and no makeup, as you’ll have to remove it prior to the procedure.
There’s also no recovery period. You can return to your everyday activities at once — just make sure to use sunscreen if you plan to spend some time outside. The only side effect you may experience is some redness in the area.
The effects of the laser treatment are subtle, so people won’t instantly realize that you have undergone a skin rejuvenation procedure, but they’ll probably notice a new freshness and a healthy glow about you. For ideal results, it’s best to undergo four to six treatments, but you’ll look and feel more radiant after each one.
Environ Vitamin Infusion
Most good things — skin rejuvenation techniques included — take time. However, many of our patients need a glow-up now. For example, they’re attending an important event tonight, and they want to look as fresh and youthful as possible, but those “character lines” feel out of character. Is there a quick solution? That’s where Environ Vitamin Infusion comes into play.
Vitamin infusion is a minimally invasive procedure, and it is completely painless. Thanks to a cocktail of powerful vitamins, low electrical current, and ultrasound, your face can look smoother and healthier in under an hour. Don’t worry — it’s not at all dangerous as the current part might have you believe.
After a deep cleanse, a clinician will apply a thick layer of vitamin serums and use the sonophoresis (ultrasound) probe to transport the nourishing molecules deeper into the skin. The clinician will then top it off with a face mask and attach some clips to the top and bottom of it. These clips are there to transport a microcurrent throughout the treated area, which allows the vitamin serum to travel further into the deeper dermis of the skin.
Creams can penetrate your skin successfully if you apply them by hand, but this procedure enables 40x the normal penetration. That’s why it provides instant results in treating crow’s feet. The annoying lines will fill out, and your face will look plump. What’s more, you’ll be ready for action as soon as the procedure’s over, as there’s no downtime.
Mesotherapy is commonly referred to as bio-rejuvenation, and it’s a popular anti-ageing method that can be used to treat crow’s feet directly. It has got its name by the fact that it involves the injection of a rejuvenating serum into the mesoderm, aka the middle layer of the skin. The doctor uses a very fine needle, so you may feel only a slight pinching sensation once the needle is inserted. We can also administer a topical anesthetic to ensure there’s absolutely no pain involved.
The serum is a combination of vitamins, enzymes, plant extracts, medications, and other substances that can revitalize the skin, and we tailor the cocktail to each patient’s individual needs. In other words, we take many factors into consideration before deciding on the best formula for your face.
The procedure can take up to an hour, and you may experience some side effects, so I wouldn’t recommend making any plans immediately after the treatment. It’s best to take some time to let the skin rest and the serum work its magic. Potential side effects include a slight burning sensation, minor swelling or bruising, flushing, and similar, but they should disappear within a few days.
The results will be noticeable immediately, but you might want to undergo a few sessions, depending on the depth of your lines. Your skin will feel tight and smooth and feel radiant. This procedure can take years off your face.
Prevent (Further) Development of Crow’s Feet
As we mature, our laughing lines are bound to appear at some point, but we can slow their development by taking care of our skin. I can’t overstate the importance of having a proper skincare routine that will keep your face and neck glowing and young. So here are some ways to keep the crows at bay:
- Always wear sunscreen — Sun exposure can seriously damage the skin and make those lines deeper much sooner. Always wear sunscreen with an SPF of 30+. You can add sunglasses to protect the area around the eyes and stop you from squinting.
- Moisturize — Moisturizing creams with substances like retinol, vitamin C, or other antioxidants are a great way to keep your skin tight and hydrated. I like to recommend SkinCeuticals’ C E Ferulic to my patients, a vitamin C serum that prevents premature ageing, and the all-powerful A.G.E. Interruptor, an anti-wrinkle formula that improves the visible signs of ageing.
- Eat healthy — You are truly what you eat, so try to manage a healthier diet with plenty of fruits, vegetables, healthy oils, and whole grains.
- Exercise daily — You don’t need to lift weights or train for a marathon, but a little bit of exercise a day helps deliver fresh oxygen to your cells, making your skin healthier.
We need to accept the fact that we age, but we don’t have to give in to deep wrinkles, dry skin, and dull complexion if we take care of our faces.
